Graft-versus-host disease in fully allogeneic small bowel transplantation: incidence of the disease and strain combinations.
WE PREVIOUSLY reported that fully allogeneic small bowel transplantation (SB11 from Lewis (LEW) to Brown Norway (BN) rats caused fatal graftversus-host disease (GVHD) when the recipients were treated with a short course of FK 506. 1 Graft-versus-host disease has also been well described after parent to F 1 hybrid SBT,2 in which immune reaction between donor and recipient is completely unbalance...
متن کاملGraft-versus-host disease after brown Norway-to-Lewis and Lewis-to-Brown Norway rat intestinal transplantation under FK506.
In LEW rats treated daily with variable doses of FK506 for 14 days and weekly thereafter, successful intestinal transplantation from fully allogeneic BN donors never was complicated by fatal GVHD. In contrast, with LEW-to-BN transplantation, rejection was difficult to control and GVHD developed after the end of the daily treatment. However, FK506 in high daily doses continued after the initial ...
متن کاملTotal orthotopic allogeneic small bowel transplantation in rats: effect of allograft irradiation combined with cyclosporine-A therapy.
Rejection and graft versus host disease are prominent features in small bowel allotransplantation in rats. Cyclosporine treatment of the recipient and irradiation of the donor were used to circumvent these phenomena in the WAG to brown Norway rat model. Irradiation of the donor with five or 10 Gy did prevent graft versus host disease but resulted in a more vigorous rejection of small bowel allo...
متن کاملIncreased intestinal permeability in rats with graft versus host disease.
BACKGROUND/AIMS The study of graft versus host disease of the intestine has significant clinical relevance and may also be a model for other immune mediated intestinal diseases. There presently is no simple non-invasive test that can be used to evaluate graft versus host disease induced intestinal injury in humans or animal models. This study tested the hypothesis that graft versus host disease...
